About Sarah-Lena Rickert
Since her studies at the Academy of Visual Arts Hamburg/ Bildkunst Akademie Hamburg, Sarah-Lena Rickert has consistently focused on the depiction of liminal spaces and delicate transitions. In her work, the human figure often becomes a protagonist, anchored in a symbolic, almost dreamlike environment. The creative process, following the principle of weaving and dissolving, leads to a subtle interplay between the visible and the invisible.
Her technique is characterized by a layered approach to materials such as ink, gouache, and collage. She carefully employs fine lines and watercolor-like washes to explore both structure and emptiness. The layering of materials and the careful unveiling of earlier compositions lend her works a tangible depth, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in a world full of riddles and suggestions.
Rickert’s color palette is often muted and restrained, making the selective use of more intense tones all the more striking. These deliberate splashes of color create a subtle dynamism and give the works an almost meditative atmosphere.
Sarah-Lena Rickert’s works are an expression of deep creative awareness, articulated through a complex visual language and the delicate combination of various techniques. She invites the viewer to trace the marks within her pieces and embark on a visual journey imbued with an almost mystical aura.
